Synopsis:

First published in 1926, The Blue Castle is a novel by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery.

The story centers on Valancy Stirling, a 29-year-old woman considered an old maid by societal standards. When she learns she has only about a year to live due to a fatal heart condition, Valancy decides to truly live for the first time. She no longer concerns herself with the opinions of her mother or her overbearing family.

Instead, she resolves to experience all the things she has always dreamed of—finding love, gaining independence, and creating a home of her own, which she affectionately names the Blue Castle.
